THE HEAD Flashcards
the head is examined from what planes?
frontal plane
sagittal plane
transverse plane
what to look for when examining the head from the frontal plane?
what does this indicate?
tilt to either side
pblms: extra ocular muscles scoliosis neurologic deficit degenerative joint disease neuromuscular disease
from the frontal plane, tilting of the head can also indicate limb length discrepancy, what does this mean structurally and functionally?
head will tilt toward short side when compensated; toward long side when uncompensated
where one foot is more pronated than the other, the head will tilt toward pronated side
what to look for when examining the head from the sagittal plane?
look for tilt either forward or backward (kyphosis or lordosis)
look for abnormal motion or lack of neck control (neurologic problems)
what to look for when examining the head from the transverse plane?
observe the nose
