FLATFOOT TERMS Flashcards
absent to low longitudinal medial arch (flexible or rigid)
flatfoot
a bridge between bones of the tarsus; osseous, fibrous or cartilaginous
tarsal coalition
any healed fracture that involves STJ, calcaneocuboid joint or talo-navicular joint
fracture
any arthritic process that damages articular surface of joint can result in a rigid flatfoot
arthritic disease
present at any time motion of the STJ causes pain
STJ pronation decreases compression at distal joints decreasing stability
exam tech to eliminate peroneus brevis m
peroneal spasm
any condition that results in ligamentous laxity can result in flexible flatfoot
ligamentous
insertion of tibialis posterior tendon into accessory navicular resulting in altered pull of tendon
pre hallux
a foot with a short 1st ray
Mortons foot
any condition that improves the mechanical advantage of peroneus brevis m
neuromuscular
congenital aka
ontogenic
inability of the foot to dorsiflex 10 degrees on the leg in an STJ neutral
equinas
inversion of forefoot relative to a bisection of the rearfoot observed in STJ neutral and MTJ maximally pronated around both axes
forefoot varus
when patient is placed in NCSP, rearfoot is inverted or in a position of varus relative to the ground
rearfoot varus
forefoot is observed to be everted relative to rearfoot, with STJ in its neutral position and MTJ locked (maximally pronated)
flexible forefoot valgus
when placed in NCSP, patients vertical heel bisection is everted or valgus relative to the ground; patient functions pronated during gait
rearfoot valgus
