CASTING OF ORTHOTICS HIGH YIELD Flashcards
what are the steps for the casting of orthotics?
capture foot at midstance controls rearfoot or STJ around neutral allow for maximal pronation at the MTJ create for a more functional environment patient must be functional or propulsive
what is the suspension technique?
- position patient
- plaster preparation
- applying plaster
- positioning foot
- loading lateral column
- removing cast
what is the semi weight bearing casting?
-have a patient seated
-place a cushion or bio foam on ground
-position patient with hip
-flexed 90 degrees, knee
flexed 90 degrees, ankle flexed 90 degree
-apply plaster to patients foot
-have patient rest foot on fusion, holding STJ in neutral
-when plaster is dry enough, remove the cast
what are the steps for cast evaluation?
bisect posterior surface of the heel
tilt cast until heel is vertical and allow cast to rest on flat surface
plantar surface of the cast at the area of the MTJ should be
convex
sulcus of the toes
plantar surface of the lateral arch of the negative cast
compare right and left negative casts
what type of cast is this?
lateral side of the negative cast is convex or c shaped
supinated cast
what are the steps for the making of the pronated cast?
concavity below the lateral malleolus
prominent bulge of the talonavicular articulation on medial side of cast
flattened plantar surface of the heel of the cast
decrease in the height of the lateral arch at the calcaneocuboid joint
abducted forefoot on the rearfoot
