Test 4 Flashcards
What is the rate of reaction
How quickly a chemical reaction happens
Name 5 factors that increase rate of reaction
Higher temperatures, higher concentrations, mixing, greater surface area, catalyst eg enzymes
Explain how to do the experiment that affects the rate of reaction of which a vitamin tablet dissolves in water
- Use a graduated cylinder to measure 50cm3 of water into a conical flask. Start your clock when you add the tablet to the flask. Stop the clock when there is no more fizzing
- Repeat the experiment using a stirring rod to stir the solution
- Repeat again this time using warm water above 30 degrees
- Do again with the tablet broken it 1/4
- Repeat again by crushing the tablet with a mortar and pestle
Show the effect of HCI concentration on rate of reaction with magnesium
- Place 50cm3 of various HCI concentrations in five conical flasks
- Add on equal size of magnesium to each flask and calculate the time it takes for it to react
What are the properties of CO2
Colourless,odourless gas,does not support combustion,denser than air
What is the test of CO2
Bubble CO2 through colourless limewater. It turns milky white
Define the term catalyst
Catalyst is a substance that changes the rate of reaction without being used up. It does this by reducing the active energy
Define the term rate
The rate of a chemical reaction tells us how quickly a chemical reaction happens.
What is the partial theory
The rate of a reaction simply depends on how often and how hard the reacting particles collide with each other.
