Q

How do u prepare an onion cell

A

Cut an onion and peel thin layer of cells off and place a pice under a microscope. Put a drop of iodine stain on the cheek and place a coverslip on top of it. Place the slide on the stage of the microscope and secure with clips. Switch on the microscope and put it to the low power objective lens and move the stage using the course focus wheel. Look through the eyepiece lens and use the course wheel to make the onion cells visible.

19
Q

What are fossil fuels

A

Fossil fuels are the remains of dead organisms from millions of year ago

20
Q

What are advantages of nuclear energy

A

Advantages of nuclear energy are I does not release CO2 and it produces a large amount of energy and only uses a small amount of fuel

21
Q

What are disadvantages of nuclear energy

A

Disadvantages of nuclear energy is that it produces radioactive waste and there is a danger of accidents and explosions

22
Q

What does the universe consist of ?

A

The universe consists of the area of space containing the galaxies, stars and solar systems

23
Q

What is the Galaxy

A

A galaxy is a collection of millions of stars along with gases and dust held together by gravity forces

24
Q

What is Pluto

A

Pluto is considered a planetoid (dwarf planet) as it is too small to be a planet but too large to be an asteroid.

25
Q

What keeps the plants in orbit of the sun?

A

The force of gravity.

26
Q

Define the term cells

A

The basic building blocks of living things

27
Q

Define the term nutrition

A

The way in which living things get their food

28
Q

Define the term excretion

A

The way in which living things get rid of wastes that they produce

29
Q

Define the term response

A

The way in which living things react to changes in their surroundings

30
Q

Define the term reproduction

A

The way in which living things produce new living things

31
Q

Define the term bacteria

A

Tiny microscopic living things. Some cause disease, some cause decay, some are used to produce valuable substances

32
Q

Give me 3 examples of fungi

A

Mushrooms, moulds and yeast

33
Q

Give me 3 examples of plants

A

Trees, grasses, flowers

34
Q

Give me 3 examples of animals

A

Humans, fish, insects

35
Q

Define the term biodiversity

A

Biodiversity means the range of living things.

36
Q

Define the term cells

A

Living things are made of cells. Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things.

37
Q

Name the 3 main parts in an animal cell

A

• A cell membrane
• A nucleus
• Cytoplasm.

38
Q

What is a cell membrane and what does it do

A

The cell membrane is a very thin layer that surrounds the cell. Retains cell contents and
Controls what passes in and out of the cell

39
Q

What is the nucleus and what is it’s importants

A

The nucleus is normally round.
Its function is to act as the control centre of the cell.

40
Q

Define the term cytoplasm and explain its purpose

A

Cytoplasm is a watery liquid found between the nucleus and the cell membrane. It Carries out some cell reactions and it Supports tiny cell structures

41
Q

What does the mitochondria do

A

Supplies energy to the cell (by respiration)

42
Q

Name the five main parts of a planet cell

A

• A cell wall
• A cell membrane
• A nucleus
• cytoplasm
• A vacuole.

43
Q

Define the term a cell wall and explain its use

A

A cell wall is found outside the cell membrane in plant cells. It Gives strength to the cell

44
Q

What is the function of the chloroplast

A

Makes food (by photosynthesis)

45
Q

What is a vacuole and what is its main function

A

A vacuole contains liquid. If the vacuole is full of liquid, it forces the cytoplasm to push out against the cell wall. It Gives strength to the cell
