17
Q

Define the term heart valves

A

Valves in the heart make sure that blood can flow only in one direction. In this way, they are similar to valves in a car tyre or football (which let air pass in, but not out).

18
Q

What is a pulse

A

When blood is pumped through the arteries, the pressure causes the arteries to expand.

19
Q

Define the term excretion

A

Excretion is the getting rid of the waste products of reactions from the body.

20
Q

Name the 6 functions that make up the breathing system

A

Nose
Trachea
Bronchi and bronchioles
Alveoli
Diaphragm
Ribs and intercostal muscles.

21
Q

Describe what happens in the respiration system when a person breaths in?

A

When a person breathes into their nose, the diaphragm contracts move down lungs expand and the trachea carries air into the lungs. The bronchioles carry air to the alveoli where oxygen passes from the alveoli into the bloodstream.
