Habitat Study Flashcards
Define the term ecology
Ecology is the study of our plants and animals interaction each other and their environment
What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a group of living organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment e.g. desert ocean rainforest
What is a habitat?
A habitat is the local area where an organism lives, e.g. hedge grow field woodland
How do you identify organisms?
Use plant or animal keys identification apps
What is adaption ?
Adaption is the structure/behaviour that helps an organism to survive better e.g. snail shell protection against predators
What is competition?
Competition between organisms for resources out of scarce e.g. animals compete for mates, food and territory while plants compete for light, water, minerals and space
Define the term interdependence
Interdependence are organisms in a habitat that depends on each other e.g. the score depends on the oak tree food and shelter and the oak tree depends on the squirrel to disperse its seeds
Name three types of equipment you use to catch insects
Pooter, sweep net and pitfall trap
What are decomposers?
Decomposers like bacteria, worms and fungi breakdown dead organisms and recycle minerals and nutrients
