Electricty Flashcards
Define the term Current electricity
The flow of electrons is called an electric current
What are conductors?
Conductors are substances that allow electricity to flow through them
Define the term insulator
Insulators are substances that do not allow electricity to flow through them
Define the term circuit
Electric circuit is a loop of metal that allows electricity flow around it
Tell me about bulbs in series
Equal amount of current flows in both bulbs if one bulb blows then the other bulb goes out as the current is broken e.g. old Christmas tree lights
Tell me about bulbs in parallel
The current coming from the battery is split between bulb one and bulb two. If one boat blows the other can say less i.e. used in house lighting and car headlights.
Define the term current
Current is the flow of electrons and the more electrons passing a point per second the greater the current is
What do you use to measure the current?
Ammeter
What unit is used to measure a current?
Amps
Define the term voltage
Voltage is the pushing power of a battery has to move electrons around the circuit
What do you use to measure voltage
Voltmeter
What is the unit used to measure voltage?
Volts
Define the term resistance
Resistance is the opposition to the flow of the current
What do you use to measure the resistance?
Ohmmeter
What unit is used to measure resistance?
Ohms
