Test 1 chapter 9 Flashcards
exaggerated immune response against environmental antigens
Ex hey fever
allergy
immune response against beneficial foreign tissue
Ex. transfusion, transplant rejection
alloimmunity
immune response directed against “self”
Ex. systemic lupus erythematosis
autoimmunity
response insufficient to protect host
Ex. AIDS
immune deficiency
altered immunologic response to antigen which causes damage to host
hypersensitivity
reactions that occur within minutes to a few hours are
immediate hypersensitivity reactions
may take several hours to appear and are at maximum severity days after reexposure to the antigen
delayed hypersensitivity reactions
most rapid and sever hypersensitivity response
Immediate
anaphylaxis
reaction that are mediated by antigen specific IgE and the products of tissue mast cells
Occur against environmental antigens and are therefor allergic
Hypersensitivity type 1
side effects of type 1 hypersensitivity
itching urticaria conjunctivitis rhinitits GI cramps or malabsorption decrease in BP bronchospasm
Tissue-specific
IgG or IgM binds to specific tissue antigen on cell surface and activates complement cascade which causes membrane damage and lysis
Manifestations are tissue dependent
Type II hypersensitivity
antigen-antibody complexes formed in blood and deposited in vessel wall or extravascular tissue
Type III hypersensitivity
mediated by T lymphocytes not antibodies
type IV hypersensitivity
Type IV occurs through either
cytotoxic t lymphocytes or TH1 cells
