Appendicular skeleton
Includes bones of the thoracic girdle and forelimbs and the pelvic girdle and hindlimbs
Axial skeleton
Bones of the skull, hyoid apparatus, cartilages of larynx, and bones of the vertebral column, ribs and sternum
Tendon
A band of tough, inelastic fibrous tissue that connects a muscle with its bony attachment
Aponeurosis
A sheet like fibrous membrane that serves as a fascia to bind muscles together, or as a means of connecting muscle to bone
Fascia
A sheet or band of fibrous connective tissue enveloping, separating or binding together muscles, organs and other soft structures
Ligament
A sheet or band of tough, fibrous tissue connecting bones or cartilages at a joint or supporting an organ
Antagonist
A muscle that counteracts the action of another muscle
Linea alba (white line)
A fibrous band that runs vertically along the center of the anterior abdominal wall and receives the attachments of the oblique and transverse abdominal muscles
Condyle
A large articular prominence
Cotyloid cavity
Deep articular depression
Crest
A prominent border or ridge
Epicondyle
A prominence just proximal to a condyle
Facet
A smoot, flat surface
Fissure
A narrow cleft like opening between adjacent bones
Foramen
An opening through a bone
