What is Tequila?
Product of Mexico, produced from the fermented juice of the cooked “pina” (pineapple) the hard of the blue agave plant.
*But only the best tequila is actually produced with 100% blue agave juice.
Is tequila produced from 100% blue agave juice?
NO, most tequila is (mixto) with low mandating a minimum 51% blue agave, other sugars make up the reminder of the ferment.
If tequila is bottled immediately after distillation can be labelled:
Blanco or Silver.
If tequila is aged 2 months to 1 year in oak cask, will be labelled:
Reposado
If tequila is aged for at least 1 year in oak cask, will be labelled;
Anejo
If tequila is aged for a min of 3 years in oak cask, will be labelled;
Extra Anejo
How would you recommend (Extra Anejo) tequila to be enjoyed?
After diner drink, similar to single malt Scotch or Cognac.
Is Mezcal distilled from blue agave?
NO, close to 90% mezcal is a distilled of the agave variety espadin (agave angustifolia)
*Like tequila, mezcal may be aged in cask and labelled (Reposado or Anejo) but Blanco is the traditional expression.
