Temporomandibular joint Flashcards
What are the joint structures of the TMJ
Head of condylar process of mandible Articular disc Mandibular gossamer of temporal bone Articular tubercle of temporal bone Joint capsule
Mandibular Foramen
Where branches of V3 go in
What nerve inner sets the opening And closing of the jaw
CN5 V3, supplies anterior digastric, mylohyoid,
Temporalis Muscle
O- temporal fossa & temporal fascia
I- coronoid process of mandible & anterior surface of ramus
N- anterior & posterior deep temporal nerves from Mandibular division of CN 5
A- elevates the mandible; retracts the mandible (posterior fibers)
Masseter
P- inferior border of medial surface of zygomatic arch
D- lateral surface of ramus and it’s coronoid process
N- CN5 (V3)
A- elevates and protrudes mandible
Medial Pterygoid
P- medial surface of lateral pterygoid plat, palatine bone, pterygoid fossa
D- medial surface of mandibular ramus
N- CN5 (V3)
A- BILATERAL- elevates mandible, closes jaw, protrude mandible
UNILATERAL- can laterally deviate jaw to opposite sides (grinding)
Lateral Pterygoid
P- superior head: greater wing of sphenoid bone
Inferior head: lateral surface of lateral of lateral pterygoid
D- superior head: capsule & Articular disk of the temporomandibular joint, inferior head: neck of mandible
N: lateral pterygoid branch of mandibular division of V
A: protracted mandible, opens mouth, active in grinding
