Cervicle Plexus

A

formed by ventral primary rami of C1-C4. made up of Sensory branches: lessor occipital nerve, greater auricular nerve, transverse cervical nerve, supraclavicular nerve
Motor branches: phrenic nerve (C3-C5) and ansa cervicalis

A

ascends posterior to SCM and posterior to ear

supplies posterior skull

Ascends anterior to SCM & anterior to ear

Cross SCM (posterior ti anterior)
Innervates the skin of the anterior triangle

Sensory Branch: Supraclavicular Nerve (C3-C4)

A

descends posterior of SCM

Divides into 3 branches (anterior, middle, posterior)

Motor Branch: Phrenic Nerve (C3-C5)

A

Descends in the fascia along the anterior surface of anterior scalene between SCM and anterior scalene
motor supply to diaphragm

Motor Branch: Ansa Cervicalis

A

nerve loop of cervical plexus
superior (C1-C2) and inferior root (C2-C3)
innervates infrahyoid muscles (except throhyoid)

Brachial Plexus

A

Exits between anterior and middle scalene
Dorsal scapular nerve (rhomboids, lev. scapula) exit through the belly of midline scalene
Long thoracic nerve (serratus anterior) exit through the belly of middle scalene
Clinically…potential site for entrapment…referred pain
