Lungs Flashcards
ventilation
mechanical movement of air in/out of the lungs
Static Lung Volume
total lung capacity, tidal volume, inspiratory reserve capacity
Hilum
site where lung becomes covered by visceral pleura Contains: primary bronchus 2 pulmonary veins (sup & inf) 1 pulmonary artery bronchial vessels pulmonary nerve plexus (atonomic & sensory nerves) lymph vessels
Right Lung
3 lobes (superior, inferior, middle) separated by oblique fissure and horizontal fissure
divides into 10 bronchopulmonary segments (2 superior, 3 middle, 5 inferior)
Left Lung
2 lobes seperated by oblique fissure
superior & inferior lobes
has a lingula, similar to middle lobe
Bronchial tree
trachea bifucates into primary bronchi at carina
Mediastinum
regions between pleural cavities
Borders of Mediastinum
superior- superior thoracic aperture
inferior- diaphragum
anterior- sternum & costal cartilages
posterior- thoracic vertebrae
Superior Division of Mediastinum
arch of aorta/great vessel, trachea, esophagus
Anterior Inferior Mediastinum
internal thoracic vessel, fat, few lymph nodes
Middle Inferior Mediastinum
pericardium, heart, roots of great vessels
Posterior Inferior Mediastinum
esophagus, descending (thoracic) aorta, thoracic duct, lymph nodes
