What is GPS?
GPS stands for global positioning system, and uses satellites orbiting the earth to triangulate your position on the earth’s surface.
What is 3G?
3G stands for 3rd generation of mobile telephony (cellular).
What is Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity, which uses radio waves to connect to a local area network (LAN) or a router.
What is broadband?
Comes from the words ‘broad bandwidth’ and is the term for networks which can carry multiple channels of data. It doesn’t mean it’s faster, just it can carry more data at once.
What is HD?
Stands for high definition and means that there is high numbers of pixels per area of screen.
What is VoIP?
Stands for voice over Internet protocol, and is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet.
What is SMS?
Stands for short message service (up to 160 characters) and is provided by all mobile phone operators.
What is MMS?
Stands for Multimedia Messaging Service, and extends SMS to be able to send multimedia content.
What is roaming?
The use of cellular phone outside it’s local area.
What is SMTP?
Stands for simple mail transfer protocol and is an Internet standard for electronic mail.
What is IMAP?
Stands for Internet message access protocol and is an Internet protocol for message retrieval.
What is POP3?
Stands for the first generation of post office protocol and is where you retrieve your emails from.
