Cloud Computing Flashcards
What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is where computing needs for accessed over the Internet from a central cloud provider.
What is the simplest type of cloud service?
Data storage
How is a cloud service accessed?
Cloud computing is a service that is subscribed to, rather than a product to be purchased out right.
What are the three main advantages of Cloud computing?
Cost, scalability, mobility
Why is cost an advantage of cloud computing?
A Cloud system is cheaper overall especially for medium to large size companies because:
There is no large one-off expense on a new computer system. IT maintenance and repair bills are less. The Business only needs to buy low powered computers to access the Internet, as the cloud service does much of the processing. Employees are able to work from home, therefore no deskspace is needed.
What does scalability mean?
Scalability is the ease of which a business is able to take on more infrastructure.
Why is scalability an advantage of cloud computing?
Scalability is an advantage as cloud computing as it allows a company to easily add more users to the IT infrastructure as it is already in place in the cloud server. New users just need to be given a login and be able to access the Internet.
What is mobility and why is it an advantage?
A cloud system has greater mobility as users can access the system more flexibly.
For instance they can access it from many devices and from many different locations. This benefits the environment and makes work less stressful.
What are the disadvantages of cloud computing?
You don’t know where the data is stored. If you don’t pay, you won’t be out to access the system. If you lose Internet connection, you can’t access the system. If the system is hacked, all information is at risk. You are completely reliable on the cloud provider. The business will need a very good broadband service. Huge files sometimes do not work
