What are the five animal kingdoms?
Animals, Monera, Protists, Fungi, plants.
What are monera?
Single celled organisms that don’t have a nucleus. Bacteria make up the entire kingdom.
What are protists?
Mostly single celled organisms that have a nucleus. They usually live in water.
What is the hierarchy of classification?
Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genius and species.
What is a mneumonic for remembering the hierarchy of classification?
Keep ponds clean or frogs get sick.
What is the binomial naming system?
It was first applied by Carl Linnaeus and is the naming system where each organism is given a two part name. The first name always has a capital starting letter, and represents the genius of the organism. The second specific name is descriptive and always starts with a lowercase letter. Both words are in italics.
