What is the other name for TB?
Koch’s Disease
The causes of TB are:
- Mycobacterium TB
- Mycobacterium Bovis
How is TB avoided?
Airborne Precaution - use of hepa-filter mask or N95 mask
Where is the patient with TB placed?
Negative pressure room
What are the three symptoms of TB?
- anorexia
- fever
- night sweats
What are the early signs of TB?
mucopurulent discharge
What is the late sign of TB?
hemoptysis
How does the Mantoux Test/Purified Protein Derivative work?
Performed through ID route, results are usually within 48-72 hours, and all Filipinos are positive due to the BCG vaccine
How are the results of the Mantoux Test classified?
- 0-5 mm is negative
- 6-9 mm is exposed but immuno compromised
- 10 mm and above is positive
What is observed in the roentgenogram/xray?
Gohn’s Complex/Primary Complex, the upper part of the lung has white indications
How is the sputum culture collected?
Over the course of 3 days, 2 of the 3 specimen should test positive for a positive result
Should patients brush their teeth before sputum culture?
Only wash with water
What are the medications for TB?
Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, Etambutol, Streptomycin (RIPES)
What is the side effect of Rifampicin?
Orange secretions (sweat) and urine
What is the side effect of Isoniazid?
Neuritis
