What is Taxonomy?
Taxonomy is the classification of different species. It is usually sorted by structural and physical features. It is the first of it’s kind to use binomial nomenclature.
What is/how does Binomial Nomenclature work?
The first part of the name is called the Genus. The first letter is always capitalized. It could also be written alone.
The second part of the name is called the species. It is all in lowercase and it is never written alone. Both parts of the name are to be italicized.
What is a species?
Its a group or organisms that can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.
NOTE: breeding between different species is rare and usually results in infertile offspring.
What are the 7 levels of classification (from largest to smallest)?
Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species.
(each level is called a taxon)
What does Unicellular mean?
One organism/cell
What does multicellular mean?
Multiple organisms/cells
What does Prokaryotic mean?
No nucleus is present in (a) cell
What does Eukaryotic mean?
Means the cell has (a) nucleus
