Q

What happens in Prophase I that is so important?

A

In Prophase I, Homologous chromosomes pair up and form Tetrads. ‘Crossing Over’ then occurs between the Tetrads which in turn is what controls how the kid may look and what he/she may inherit.

Q

What happens during Interphase?

A

Nothing much happens. DNA begins to duplicate along with just around every other Organelle in the cell.

Q

Metaphase I. What occurs?

A

The Tetrads line up across the equator of the cell. The centromeres that attach to the center.

Q

What else that is important occurs in Metaphase I?

A

Random Assortment. Independent Assortment law states that the random orientation of these Tetrads in Metaphase I allow for the production of gametes with a variety of assortments of homologous chromosomes.

Q

What’s Meiosis II?

A

Meiosis II effectually is the splitting of those two haploid daughter cells which create 4 new haploid daughter cells.

Q

What happens in Prophase II?

Q

What happens in Metaphase II?

A

The Chromosomes line up on the Spindle fibers as opposed to the equator. The Chromosomes in M2 are always lined up perpendicular to that of M1.

Q

What happens in Anaphase II?

A

The Centromere gets split in two and the Chromatids (fancy for ‘Single-Stranded Chromosomes’) get moved towards opposite poles.

Q

Telophase II and Cytokinesis (again). What is happening in this phase?

A

Four daughter haploid cells are over, signifying the end of the Meiosis cycle. Because each of these ‘Gametes’ retain half the amount of Chromosomes as a regular Diploid cell, we call them ‘Haploids’.

Q

So, what happens now that Meiosis is done?

A

When the union between the two Gametes occur in a human, they form that union of 46 total Chromosomes. Because they have the proper amount, they just go through numerous cycles of Mitosis which forms the kid effectually.
