Surveillance Flashcards
What sub-systems make up the Surveillance system?
Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS)
Weather Radar (WXR) system, including the predictive windshear detection
Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast -Traffic (ADS-B Traffic@ )
Transponder (XPDR).
How many surveillance systems are there?
Two identical surveillance systems (SYS 1 and SYS 2)
In the case of electrical emergency configuration what action must the crew take with repect to the the Surv system?
The crew must manually switch on system 2.
What component parts make up a TAWS system?
A Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS) function with five basic modes
A Terrain (TERR) and obstacle function with two modes, including the peaks function
A TAWS database
Which alerts have priority?
Stall/windshear alerts
or
GPWS alerts
Stall/windshear alerts have priority.
What colours does the VD used to represent terrain?
Terrain is always in brown. The colour of the terrain does not change depending on relative terrain proximity, nor during terrain or obstacle alerts.
If the terrain function of the GPWS triggers a caution, how much time has the system calculated before a collision?
60 seconds
If the terrain function of the GPWS triggers a warning, how much time has the system calculated before a collision?
30 seconds
What does this symbol mean on the ND?
An obstacle that meets the caution criteria.
What does this symbol mean on the ND?
An obstacle that meets the warning criteria.
Which runways are included in the TAWS runway database?
All hard surface runways over 3500ft/1067m.
The runway database includes the length and name of all hard surface runways worldwide that are 3 500 ft long or more. In addition, this database includes information about the runway orientation, elevation, and mean slope.
