Go-Around Flashcards
What happens when the Go-Around phase is activated?
When the thrust levers are set to the TOGA detent, and provided the slats/flaps configuration is different from clean configuration, or the flap lever is not set to the 0 position, all of the following occur:
- The SRS GA and the GA TRK (NAV) modes engage
- The GA phase activates on the FMS:
- The missed approach becomes the active F-PLN
- At the end of the missed approach procedure, the FMS strings the previous flown approach in the active F-PLN.
- If not previously engaged, the FD automatically engages with the HDG V/S references automatically set on the AFS CP.
- If extended, the speed brakes automatically retract.
How is Go-Around soft activated?
The thrust levers must be advanced at least momentarily to the TOGA position and then positioned in the FLEX/MCT gate.
How is Go-Around soft different to the standard Go-Around mode?
Go-Around soft targets a vertical speed of 2000 ft/min with the SRS function.
What speed does SRS target in the go-around?
The SRS in the go-around targets a maximum speed of VAPP or the IAS at the time of go-around up to VLS+25 (VLS+15 single engine).
What lateral mode engages during a go-around?
Go-around track engages intially, this is the track memorised at the time of go-around.
NAV mode arms automatically at go-around and provided that the waypoints have been sequenced correctly, NAV will engage and follow the missed approach flight plan.
In the go-around, what speed is scheduled after Acceleration Altitude?
Climb speed is scheduled above AA.
Which actions must not be forgotten if a second approach is to be flown at the destination airport?
Activate the approach.
Correctly sequence the flight plan.
What happens when the ENABLE ALTN prompt is activated in the TO revision menu?
NAV is replaced by HDG mode.
A DIR TO is required to pick up the flight plan in NAV.
What vertical mode is used for the climb if there is no ALT F-PLN prepared?
OP CLB
How much deviation does one dot above/below the glide slope represent at 50ft?
7 ft.
If the aircraft does not continue to land, how close does it have to be to the airport to sequence the destination waypoint?
Less than 7 NM.
What would P1 be calling out on the FMA for a Go-Around?
MAN TOGA, SRS, (GO-AROuND TRACK or NAV)
What is the target initial pitch value at the initiation of the go-around?
12.5°
(10° engine out)
What control consideration is important as a single engline go-around is executed?
Rudder must be applied as thrust is increased.
What is MMAAA?
Minimum Missed Approach Acceleration Altitude
MMAAA is defined as:
- When performance is not degraded, 1000 ft AAL (higher if specified for a specific airport).
- When performance is degraded (for example when an engine is inoperative), the lower of:
i. The Initial Published Platform Altitude.
ii. A Radar Cleared Altitude.
Note:
In exceptional circumstances, if the Captain believes that climb and acceleration on the above profile cannot be achieved within the TOGA thrust time limit, he/she is authorised to commence acceleration and final flap retraction at a lower altitude but no lower than 1000 ft AAL, taking into account factors such as proximate terrain and Minimum Sector Altitude/TAA.
