What fire protection is provided for the avionics bay?
Smoke detectors.
The Smoke Detection System monitors the:
- Left (L) avionics ventilation circuit
- Right (R) avionics ventilation circuit.
Each avionics ventilation circuit has two smoke detectors. They are in the air extraction ducts.
What are the requirements to get a smoke warning from the avionics smoke system?
In either side (L or R) of the avionics ventilation circuit:
- Both detectors detect smoke
- One detector detects smoke and the other is failed.
How many smoke detectors are in the forward and aft holds?
The Smoke Detection System (SDS) has:
Smoke detectors in the forward and aft/bulk cargo compartments
These detectors are in cavities within the ceiling panels. Each cargo compartment cavity has two detectors. There are:
5 cavities in the forward cargo compartment
5 cavities in the aft/bulk cargo compartment, one of which is in the bulk cargo compartment.
10 detectors per hold.
What is the result of smoke being detected by cargo compartment detectors?
If smoke is detected in a cargo compartment, the ventilation automatically stops.
Therefore:
The isolation valves close
The extraction fan stops.
How many fire extinguisher bottles supply the cargo holds?
Three
What is indicated by this light?
Extinguisher bottles 1 and 3 have discharged into the cargo hold.
