General things looking for on preflight

A

In each location, inspect for corrosion, FOD, condition, and security.

Check that all securing hardware is safety wired, cotter-keyed, and or slipmarked.

Plastic caps on avionics present a FOD hazard. Check for security.

If weapons are loaded, refer to technical manual for appropriate preflight instructions.

Improper installation of LDS pins may result in/ how to verify

A

engine overspeed.

Proper installation of the LDS roll pin is indicated by the LDS roll-pin protruding from both sides of the LDS control cable rod and the collective bias tube with the safety wire intact.

A

Failure to verify QD security may result in malfunction of pilot assist servos or loss of tail rotor control.

Ensure the outer sleeve of QD coupling completely covers the QD locking balls so they are not visible.

An over serviced tail gearbox and or a red tint to the tail gearbox oil are possible signs of contamination with hydraulic fluid. Failure of the tail rotor gearbox is possible.
