Street's NATOPS Chapter 2 Fire Extinguishing System HSM-50 Flashcards
Bottles are filled with __ and charged with __
halon, nitrogren
With no AC power, must use
Reserve
Which engine has no fire extinguisher capability without AC power?
No 2
When No 1 & APU T handles pulled, fire extinguishing agent will discharge into
Compartment for the T handle that was last actuated
How many fire detectors and where?
5 - 2 in each engine, 1 in APU
Fire detection test - 1
Continuity of the three firewall mounted detectors (No 1 engine, No 2 engine, APU)
Fire detection test No 2
Continuity of the 2 engine deck mounted detectors
Newer Fire Detectors
Aircraft configured with newer IR flame detectors will result in up to a 5 second delay in T-Handle lights extinguishing following FIRE DETR TEST knob movement.
False indication of APU fire
During APU start, temporary illumination of the APU T-Handle for approximately 3 seconds may be a false indication of an APU fire.
Fire Extinguisher Logic Module
Determines which compartment and which CADS to fire based on switch and T-Handle positions.
Activating Multiple T-Handles at Once
When AC power is available, activation of multiple T-Handles may result in both bottles being fired at the same time, leaving no reserve capability.
Impact Switch
A multiple axis impact (10G) sensor is mounted to the airframe. When crash impact forces are detected, the switch is activated via power from the Battery utility bus, discharging one fire bottle into each engine compartment.
5 Functions of the APU T Handle
Removes power from APU airframe fuel shutoff valve
Removes power from prime boost pump, sends stop signal to DESU,
Arms fire extinguisher system
Points DCV to APU compartment
