Flight Plan Requirements
The requirements for filing flight plans and advisories vary w/ each op area and are contained in DOD FLIPS and fleet op directives.
As a rule, flight plans will be required for flights that:
- Terminate Ashore
- Proceed across ADIZ boundaries and are not covered by a flight advisory
- Proceed over land
Flight advisories shall be filed for flights w/in ADIZ boundaries when all a/c will land back on board ship and are not covered by flight plan.
Squadrons shall file flight plans w/ CATCC to meet time reqs established by op area manuals or ICAO guidelines
Close Proximity Ops
During concurrent flight ops by multiple ships (Aviation/Amphib/ACS), each ship should remain in its assigned disposition in order to reduce ATC problems.
ATC must closely monitor and coordinate flight patterns to avoid interference.
Prelaunch procedures shall include exchange of air plans and prelaunch notification by ACS and acknowledgement by CV/LHA/LHD prior to any flight ops w/in 10 NM of the CV/LHA/LHD
Note: unscheduled launches or recoveries that are caused by emergency or op necessity are permissible but must be coordinated w/ the OTC ASAP because of the inherent danger of close proximity ops
