Ship Steps following the declaration of an emergency

A

ART PASN BRO

  • Aircraft position - Plot
  • Radar contact - maintain if possible
  • Turn toward the A/C’s last known pos or crash site and proceed @ best speed
  • Provide A/C w/ vectors to nearest airport or ACS - as req
  • Air Distress Freqs (121.5/243.0) - monitor
  • Summon qualified pilot to CIC and/or bridge - if available
  • Notify senior det pilot aboard - if available
  • Brief and station additional lookouts - as req
  • Request assistance from/inform accompanying units/agencies - as req
  • Obtain amplifying info as to type of emergency and pilot’s intentions
