Alert 5
A/C: Spotted for immediate T/O, blades spread, required stores loaded, on external power, mission equipment warmed up
Aircrew: Strapped in, preflight check complete up to engine start
Ships: @ flight quarters, fire party on station
Max time: 4 hours
Note: Alert 5 is as fatiguing as actual flight and should normally be used only when launch is iminent
Alert 15
A/C: Spotted for T/O, blades spread, required stores loaded
Aircrew: Briefed for flight. Preflight complete. Standing by on immediate call
Ships: @ flight quarters, fire party in immediate vicinity
Max time: 8 hours
Alert 30
A/C: Rotors may be folded. A/C may be on deck or in hangar. Required stores loaded
Aircrew: Briefed
Ships: Not at flight quarters
Max time: 18/48* hours
*2 A/C dets allow for unlimited alert 30. Daily’s/TAs required every 24/72 hrs
Alert 60
A/C: A/C in hangar secured for heavy wx. Minor mx may be performed
Aircrew: Designated and available
Ships: Not at flight quarters
Max time: Unlimited hours
Fly Off policy
Should not be night or IMC
Shall not exceed 75% of max range
Concurrent ops on single spot ships
Not prohibited, shall be ORMed, refer to SOP
SAR Helo Equipment Requirement (122)
- Operable hoist w/ rescue device.
- Operable searchlight (for night SAR)
- Sufficient liferafts to support pax rescue requirements
