What is the empiric treatment for HSV?
acyclovir
*can use other cylcovirs
How long do you administer clycovirs for?
7-10 days
What is the first test performed for painful genital ulcer?
suspect herpes so perform swab for HSV PCR
*HSV PCR can determine between type 1 and 2
Some overlap between chlamydia and gonorrhea
urethritis, PID, trachoma and cervicitis
LGV
ulcerative disease of genital area most commonly caused by chlamydia L1-L3
How do you test for N. gonorrhea?
NAAT testing
What type of bacteria is N. gonorrhea?
gram negative diplococci
treatment for gonorrhea
ceftriaxone
*also treat for chlamydia

doxycycline (preferred)
macrolides (given during pregnancy)
What is the hallmark symptom of syphilis?
maculopaplar rash on hands + feet
How long does painless ulcer take to form in syphilis?
3-4 weeks
When does neurosyphilis develop?
can develop at any point
