Startup EMRG’s Flashcards
You are about to start the engines but FLI for ENG 2 is on N1, what are your actions?
Aircraft will have to be shut off and on again
What are the abort start criteria? (8)
- No ignition by 20% N1 or 15 sec (after selecting idle)
- Abnormal noises/vibrations
- TOT rises above 810ºC and approaches 895ºC
- Engine hangs (defined as:
- No ENG/transmission oil pressure after ground idle
- N1/N2 out of limits
- Starter still engaged at N1 50%+
- Auto restart not successful
Abort start procedure
1 ENG Main sw - OFF
If engine still running or TOT still rising
2. Respective twist grip - Turn to shutoff
If engine still running
3. EMRG off switch - Press
Engine vent procedure
- ENG main sw - OFF
When N1 is less than 10% and 30 sec has elapsed
2. VENT sw - VENT pos, max 15 sec
3. Wait 30 sec (60 if no ignition) and attempt a restart
During startup and when checking T’s & P’s, what is an easy way to confirm they are good?
Quickly scan to see in there is a yellow/red bar below one, makes it easier to see if any are out of limits
Before setting ENG main switches to OFF, pilots should confirm what?
That the rotor area is clear
You are conducting ENG startup and do not have any ignition, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
You are conduction and engine start, N1 stagnates below ground idle, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
During engine start TOT rises to approx 835ºC before lowering to 780ºC, what are your actions?
Continue with the start as normal, no limits have been broken
During engine start TOT rises past 810ºC continuing to a raid pace towards 900ºC, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
What are pilot considerations prior to shutting off the BAT MASTR sw during an ENG fire?
You can’t make anymore radio calls once shutoff
N1/N2 are out off limits on start, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
ON startup you see the TOT rising rapidly but no FIRE captions are visible, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
3. Vent
During shutdown you get the FIRE caption, what are your actions?
- Respective EMER OFF sw - Open and Press
- Both PRIME PUMP sw - Check OFF
- Both ENG MAIN sw’s - OFF
Non boldface
4. Passengers - “All crew we have an engine fire, evacuate the aircraft via the RHS door and regroup 100m in front of the aircraft”
5. MAYDAY Call “MAYDAY Taip 41, Engine fire on the ground at 723SQN parking bays”
6. Batt MSTR sw - OFF
7. Rotor break- On
During engine start checks you flick FADECs 1 and 2 on however some of the TEDREO cautions stay on, what are your actions?
Stop your checks, contact MAINT on TAC2 and conduct shutdown checks
”Flight line TAPI XX, request assistance”
During the engine startup pattern you notic trans oil P is out of limits, what are your actions?
Wait and observe if it is moving to within limits, if not correcting within 60-90sec likley abort start
During startup, what happens if the N2/Nr needles do not match?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
During startup you notice that the starter is still engaged past 50% N1, what are your actions?
Abort Start:
1. ENG Main sw - OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist grip - OFF
Explain the difference between “abort start”, “Single ENG shutdown” and “ENG Fire”?
Abort start: ENG MAIN sw —> Twist grip
EMRG Single ENG shutdown: ENG Main sw extra Cx —> twist grip extra Cx
ENG Fire: EMRG Off sw —> Prime Pumps —> Main sw
When is “single engine shutdown”, “abort start” and “ENG fire” used on the ground?
Single ENG EMRG Shutdown:
- ENG Chip on the ground
Abort Start
- Any abort start criteria during start
ENG Fire
- During a fire…
Under what conditions does the FADEC run an auto restart?
If no ignition 5 seconds after N1 reaches 15% FADEC will stop the engine
Commences restart once below 7%
How many times will the FADEC run an auto restart, how many times can you do a manual restart?
FADEC: Only 1
Pilot: 15 sec starter, 30 etc off, 15 sec starter, 30 sec off,15 sec starter, 30 mins off
When is an engine vent used?
After every abort start
Double Engine EMRG Shutdown
- Both ENG Main sw’s - OFF
- Both FADECs - OFF
- Prime Pumps - OFF
- BATT Master sw - Off
If the ENG is still running
5. ENG Twist grips - OFF
Why would you wait 60 sec before venting when you didn’t get ignition?
Because fuel has to drain out and back into the reserve system
Explain the functions of the fire warning, XFER pump and DC system checks
Fire EXT
Test 1: Halon bottle pressure
Test 2: Circuitry and warnings are correct
XFER Pumps
Confirms the operation of the XFER pumps when operating on the EMRG bus/battery
DC System
Confirms that battery voltage is sufficient and equal between the two systems
Single ENG EMRG Shutdown
- ENG main sw - Idle, check indications, OFF
If ENG is still running
2. Twist Grips - Min, verify, OFF
