OEI Ops Flashcards

1
Q

What does “OEI Flight conditions - Establish” mean?

A

Any speed between 40-110kts that is less than 11FLI (OEI MCP)

Faster flight requires more PWR

Q

Explain the CANCA process for single engine fail in flight?

A

C - Call indication (ENG FAIL CAUTION ENGINE 2)
A - Boldface —> Safe heigh, HDG, Speed
N - Landing area? RWY vs taxiway vs field
C - “NFP make a PAN call for landing at: “
A - Pre landing checks, non boldface items, PWP and single engine landing checklist

3
Q

Explain how OEI influences the PWP

A

Consider weight and OEI HOGE/HIGE time
Don’t just brief a CAT4 normal angle profile approach, consider need for running LDG or shallow approach if time critical (likely not is OEI)

4
Q

What is an example of the single engine approach “plan” brief?

A

We have HIGE OEI 2 min, wind is 10kts down the RWY, this will be a shallow profile approach to the 1000ft markers, NFP calls powers above OEI MCP

Double ENG EMRG Shutdown on the ground

A

Both main sw - OFF
Both FADEC - OFF
Both Prime Pumps - OFF

Q

What indications should you expect for a single engine fail in flight?

A
  • Yaw to L
  • Nr droop if at high PWR
  • CAD 4x Cautions (ENG FAIL, ENG OIL P, FUEL PRESS, GEN DISCON)
  • TQ, N2 and N1 trending or already reading 0%

7
Q

If you are required to complete a steep approach when OEI, how does that effect you RoD?

A

You should not descend faster than 300ft/min

8
Q

You are departing and see ENG fail, you are not yet at 150ft or 65kts and have not called flyaway, what are your actions?

A

“Engine failure, aborting”
Lower collective to capture Nr
Asses height/speed, set flare to decel
Set landing attitude
Collective to cushion approach
Land the aircraft
Single ENG EMRG shutdown on ground

9
Q

What does “flyaway” mean?

A

The flyaway call is made when the aircraft reaches a safe single engine performance envelope, typically at 723 this is 65kts 150ftAGL

Advanced considerations include height loss, weight, wind, landing area available and obstacles

Q

What does “committed” mean?

A

The aircraft can no longer go around with its current weight/plan (typically called when slowing below 65KIAS)

11
Q

You are departing RWY 03 about to turn crosswind and see “ENG FAIL”, what are your actions?

CANCA for ENG FAIL

A

Simultaneously:
- Collective to capture RRPM if req
- FLI within limits
Maintain 65KIAS
Once clear of obstacles
FLI less than 11
Single engine shutdown

12
Q

Explain single engine failure prior to committed

Similar to HOGE ENG fail

A

Bang
“Engine failure, going around”
Simultaneously set:
- 15ND
- 30 Sec PWR
At 40kts set 65kts attitude
Once clear of obstacles set 2 min PWR

Q

Explain your actions for a single engine failure after committed

A

Bang
Collective to capture RRPM
RoD not above 300f/min
Assess height/speed for aspect

14
Q

What are your actions for a single engine failure HIGE?

A

Collective to capture Nr
Landing attitude establish (flare/flatten out the aircraft)
Gently lower the collective to establish descent

Land the aircraft
Single engine EMRG Shutdown

15
Q

What are your actions for a single engine failure HOGE below height loss?

When below height loss you are committed to the ground

A

Collective to capture Nr
Landing attitude establish (flare/flatten out the aircraft)
Gently lower the collective to establish descent

Land the aircraft
Single engine EMRG Shutdown

Largely the same as IGE, will be descending vertically for longer

16
Q

If you have an engine failure, which way will the nose move?

A

Left

17
Q

How can 11FLI be easily recognised on the FLI?

A

Striped yellow bar (biggest one)

18
Q

Explain your actions for an OEI shallow airfield approach

A

65kts, 700ft
Shallow aspect
“Commencing the approach”
Power (2-300ft/min RoD)
Aim point, aspect, airspeed
At 100ft:
Set flare attitude
Skids straight
Collective for aim point

19
Q

You are HOGE above height loss and experience an engine failure, what are our actions?

Above height loss means your are flyaway

A

Simultaneously:
- Set 20ºND
- Regain RRPM if req
- Set OEI 30sec PWR

Maintain the attitude
At 40kts set 65kts attitude
At a safe alt, set FLI 2 min of MCP as req
Single engine EMRG shutdown

You should always be hovering into wind

20
Q

Engine overspeed - driveshaft fail actions

A
  1. OEI flight condition - Establish
  2. Affected engine - Identify
  3. Single Engine EMRG shutdown - Perform:
    • ENG MAIN sw (confirm correct ENG) - IDLE, check indications, then OFF
21
Q

Engine oil temp high actions

A
  1. Airspeed - Increase if possible

If ENG oil temp remains above limit
2. OEI flight conditions - Establish
3. Affected engine - Identify
4. Engine main sw - Idle
5. Oil temp indicator - Monitor

Oil temp still above limits
6. Single engine EMRG Shutdown- Perform
- ENG MAIN sw (confirm correct ENG) - IDLE, check indications, then OFF

22
Q

Engine oil press low actions

A
  1. Check the indication
  2. OEI flight conditions - Establish
  3. Affected engine - Identify
  4. Single engine EMRG shutdown
    • ENG MAIN sw (confirm correct ENG) - IDLE, check indications, then OFF
23
Q

Generator overheat

A
24
Q

Engine chip fuzz burn actions

A
