Aerodynamics Flashcards
What are the flight conditions that lead to VRS?
- High RoD
- Low forward airpseed
- Power applied
From a pilots perspective, what would you notice in VRS? (5)
Odd vibration
Random pitch/roll/yaw
Fluctuating power demands
Slow control response
Rapidly increasing RoD
What are the recovery actions for VRS?
Pitch nose down to increase IAS to approx 40KIAS
Raise collective once IAS has increased
At 723SQN, what are the situations where VRS is most likely?
Power turns and quick stops especially with a tail wind
Explain how roll and flare/disc loading impact TQ
When the aircraft rolls left the aircraft will experience a TQ spike and a TQ reduction to the right
During the flare or increase disc loading Nr increases and TQ decreases
As speed increases, what aerodynamic effects take place over the body of the aircraft?
Increase speed= roll to the left
Decrease speed = roll to the right
Explain the effect of flap back/flap forward
Explain flapback and its effects on the aircraft
Flap back is the alternating motion of the advancing blade flapping up reaching its highest point at the front of the aircraft while the retreating blade flaps down reaching its low point at the tail causing the aircraft to roll towards the retreating blade (left) and pitch up
