What are a citizens rights
Liberties that citizens have that are protected by the law
What are citizens responsibilities
Duties of a citizen to fulfil because they are connected to other members in the community/ society

No discrimination when comes to provision by public authority / financial aid for students
Fair treatment and feel included. Up dense of belonging feel more like citizen
Sense of belonging
Strong sense of identity and strong bond between citizens
NS men go thru common exp: camaraderie
Know that other males went thru same thing- bond over shared exps, able to connect
Sense of identity
Comes from shared belief that we belong to the same country, share aspects of common way of life
Common exp: singing national anthem, pledge; celebrating National Day on 9 august
Creates bond, strengthens sense of identity, greater sense of citizenship
Participation in public affairs
Contributing to issues of general internal interest or concern for the good of society
In 2004 consulted ppl on having casino in integrated resort. Ppl voiced concerns and support. As a result gov added $100 entry for sporeans to deter them from sinking into debt

Car: cheaper network of roads
PT: efficient comfortable clean transport
Gov need encourage citizens for feedback, finding balance, convince citizens that final decision brings overall to society
Differing priorities
Disagreement on smt of allocated resources on certain services
Healthcare is impt for elderly but sch is impt for children
Gov weigh pros and cons of resource allocation, resolve conflict due to diff views, decide on solution
Unequal sharing of costs
Some bear greater costs: in form of noise pollution, having to give up property
Construction of the Thomson line for SMRT system. Beneficial for rest of SG. Residents of Marine Parade give up their land for construction
Gov can lessen burden by removing additional costs/ providing compensation
Managing trade offs
Involves exchange: decide between two or more things that cannot be obtains at same time
Due to limited land gov decided on allocation of land plots for diff services: forgo some for others
Gov weigh weight impact of trade offs: ensure does not impact society -vely in long run
Good leadership
Gov reps are honest and capable, have moral courage and integrity to do what is right, good moral character and who are incorruptible will win the respect of ppl
Lee Kuan Yew led sg thru political unrest and instability in 1950s and 1960s. merger with Malaysia failed, put in policies to allow sg to progress from a third world country to a first world country
decisions made by the government will be aligned to the interests of society, contributing to the good of society. trust the govt / have confidence in the govt leading to progress / political stability.
Practicing meritocracy
System that distributed opportunities based on merit or achievement
Edusave scholarship & merit bursary scheme reward top 10% and 25% sum of money
Motivates ppl to work hard : feels like all have equal chance of success
Anticipating change and staying relevant
the govt must be forward-looking and planning for solutions to future issues / making beneficial decisions
Management of tensions over the building of integrated resorts in 2005 to help boost tourism. Govt founded the national council of problem gambling to address future gambling addiction issues due to the IRs
By being forward-looking, govt can prep to counter future major issues quickly and effectively, preventing -ve impacts on society
Gives sg competitive edge over other countries

REACH govt feedback system. Allows citizens a chance to discuss countrys issues. Citizen concerns and views heard by gov, govt actively responding to their concerns
Cultivate greater SOB as they realise their opinions matter to sgs future. Hence more motivated in working for dev of society
Maintain internal and external order and external security
Police, prisons and civil defence forces protect citizens, property and whatever society believes should be protected.
The government also engages agencies like army, navy and air force to strengthen Singapore’s defence and deter potential enemies.
SG police force protect citizens from crime and all manner of criminal harm, providing safe enviro for ppl to thrive and prosper
The Singapore Army deters aggression and are able to secure a swift victory. They are ready to conduct operations to defend the security interests and and sovereignty of Singapore.
This is so that people can exist with the peace and safety the government provides, allowing the country to thrive and prosper.
