Q

Mechanism of action of cilastatin, probenecid and clavulonate?

A

Cilastatin->Inhibits dehydropeptidase, and thus inhibits renal metabolism of imipenem and increases the concentration of imipenem
Probenecid-> Inhibits renal excretion of several antibiotics (also increases excretion of uric acid)
Clavulonate-> Inhibits beta lactamases and makes the bacteria more sensitive to antibiotics
