6 Cholinergic agonists (Adverse effects) Flashcards
Direct-acting muscarinic agonists
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, urinary urgency, salivation, sweating, cutaneous vasodilation, bronchial constriction, and mitosis
Direct-acting nicotinic agonists
Acute toxicity->
-Convulsions that may progress to coma and respiratory arrest
-Depolarization blockade and respiratory paralysis
-Hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias
Chronic toxicity->
-Vascular disease and coronary death
-Ulcer recurrence in PUD
Cholinesterase inhibitors
Same as Direct-acting muscarinic agonists + CNS involvement (cognitive disturbances, convulsions, and coma) and peripheral effects such as depolarizing neuromuscular blockade
Type 5 phosphodiesterase inhibitors
Headache, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, myalgia, back pain, visual disturbances, and reduction of supine blood pressure about 7-8 mm Hg
