Spinal Nerves - Selected nerves Flashcards
Nerves off of cervical plexus (1)
phrenic nerve
Phrenic nerve
supplies motor impulses to the diaphragm
Nerves off of the brachial plexus (5)
Axillary nerve
Musculocutaneous nerve
Median nerve
Radial Nerve
Ulnar nerve
Axillary nerve
abductors at the shoulder
Musculocutaneous nerve
Flexors at the elbow
Median nerve
many of the flexors of the wrist and fingers, especially the thumb side, such as….SEE HANDOUT
also involved in carpal tunnel syndrome
Radial nerve
innervates 17 muscles , including most EXTENSORS OF THE ELBOW (triceps brachii), WRIST (extensor carpi radials longus/brevis, ext, carpi ulnas), and FINGERS (extensor digitorum).
ulnar nerve
innervates 18 muscles on the anterolateral forearm, including many FLEXORS OF THE WRIST AND FINGERS ON THE LITTLE FINGER SIDE, including the flexor carpi ulnas and part of the flexor digitorum profundus
this is the nerve we call “the funny bone”
Nerves off of the Lumbar plexus (2)
femoral nerve
obturator nerve
Femoral Nerve
hip flexors and knee extensors
Obturator nerve
most adductors of the hip
Nerves off of the sacral plexus (5)
sciatic nerve
tibial nerve
common fibular/peroneal nerve
superficial fibular/peroneal nerve
deep fibular/peroneal nerve
Sciatic Nerve
hip extensors and knee flexors
tibial nerve
most of the principle plantar flexors of the ankle and flexors of the toes
Common Fibular/peroneal nerve
this is the other major branch of the sciatic nerve and divides itself into a superficial and deep branch
