3 functional regions that produce different movements - upper, middle, lower.
Origin -occipital bone, nuchal ligament, SP’s C7-T12
Insertion - spine and acromion of scapula and lateral 1/3 of clavicle
Action -
scapula: depress, elevate, retract

Origin: SP’s C7-T5 and nuchal lig.
Insertion: vertebral boarder of scapula
Action: retract scapula
Levator Scapulae
Origin - TP’s of C1-C4
Insertion- Upper vertebral boarder of scapula
Action - elevate scapula, LF of neck
Serratus Anterior
Origin - lateral surface of upper 8 or 9 ribs
Insertion - anterior surface of vertebral boarder of the scapula
Action - protract the scapula
Pectoralis minor
Origin - ribs 3-5 near costal cartilage
insertion - coracoid process of scapula
action - depress and protract scapula
