spinal nerves exam 4 (final exam) Flashcards
what are spinal nerves?
they are nerves that exit spine 31 pairs all the same
what is the dorsal and ventral nerve root lets of spine?
tiny nerves that exits dorsal/ventral surface of spinal cord
what is the dorsal/ventral nerve roots?
formed by fusion of dorsal/ventral root lets; head toward intervertebral foramen enter dorsal root ganglia
what is the swelling in intervertebral foramen?
dorsal root ganglia
what exits the dorsal root ganglion then exits vertebral column branches to form:
- dorsal rami
- vertebral rami
spinal nerve
what is the somatic nervous system?
takes sense input to CNS takes motor instruction to PNS
what is the head?
innervated by cranial nerves (innervation of body)
what is innervated in strips by dorsal rami of spinal nerves T2-T12?
back (posterior thorax)(innervation of body)
what is innervated by ventral rami which becomes intercoastal nerves (travels in costal groove of ribs)
anterior thorax (innervation of body)
what is the lateral cutaneous nerves?
branch from intercostal nerves and go to skin
what is the anterior cutaneous nerves?
branches from intercostal nerve goes to skin
what are nerve plexuses?
all ventral rami of spinal nerves except T2-T12 enter a nerve plexus, in a plexus nerves fuse, swap nerve fibers then separate, peripheral nerves leave the plexus and go to body regions, each peripheral nerve contains nerve fibers from more than one spinal nerve.
where is the cervical plexus located?
it is deep to the sternocleidomastoid
what is the cervical plexus formed by?
ventral rami of spinal nerves C1-C4
what has important peripheral nerves: many nerves go to thorax including phrenic nerve andinnervates diaphragm?
cervical plexus
