  1. was a punishment for maori who rebelled, was often wrongfully taken as they got it wrong
  2. after 1863 waikato wars over 3 million acres were lost
  3. when the treaty was signed the maori had over 66 million acres since then almost 97%has been taken
  4. native land courts were established in 1865 to distribute land among iwi members. More land ended up being lost
