Q

what is the conservation of energy

A

energy can be changed from one form to another, but it is never created and never destroyed. Energy can either be transformed between one type to another or transferred to another object

14
Q

how do we calculate how much energy our food has

A

Q= m c πŸ”ΌT

Q= energy given out by burning food J
m= mass of water heated by burning food g
c= specific heat capacity of water (4.2)
πŸ”ΌT= change in temperature of water

Q

how do we calculate how much energy our food has equation

A

energy released from food per gram (J)= mass of water (g) x temp rise x 4.2/ mass of food sample (g)

16
Q

how does heating and expansion work

A

when heat is applied to a substance the atoms within gain kinetic energy and vibrate more quickly, as the particles vibratee more and more quickly they take up more room. This causes the substance to expand and become less dense

17
Q

what are the 3 ways heat energy moves

A

convection
conduction
radiation

18
Q

what is convection

A

The movement of heated particles in air and liquid
when the substance is heated it expands and becomes less dense, in liquids and gasses this cuases the particles to rise above the dense slow moving particles
convection is common in the atmosphere and oceans
