  2. Duration of more than 2 weeks
  3. Signs of bacterial infection (i.e., marked tonsillar exudate accompanied with a high temp. and swollen glands)
  4. Hoarseness >3 weeks
  5. Difficulty swallowing
  6. Recurrent bouts of infection
  7. Associated skin rash
  8. Adverse drug reaction (for example, clozapine, sulfasalazine, drugs causing agranulocytosis, inhaled corticosteroids)

A
  1. Benzocaine 4mg/mL (Cepacaine) Mouthwash: increases the risk of burns if eating/drinking hot food/drink afterwards
  2. Strepsils SUGAR FREE Medicated Lozenges (Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol and Amylmetacresol): anti-inflammatory (more risks) and sugar content (diabetics)
  3. Povidone iodine gargle (Betadine Ready-to-Use): unsafe in pregnancy and breastfeeding
