What is the preferred over-the-counter treatment option for hair loss?
Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% w/v (Regaine)
What are the directions for Minoxidil Topical Solution 5% w/v (Regaine) in hair loss?
Adults 18-65 years:
1. Apply 1mL in the morning and at night onto dry
2. scalp in the hair loss area.
3. Do not use on other parts of the body.
4. Continued use is necessary to increase and maintain hair re-growth, or hair loss will begin again.
5. Treatment should be continued for at least 4 months with maximum results at 12 months.

- Alopecia areata (hair loss of unknown origin)
- Medication-induced hair loss
- Trichotillomania
What is 1 piece of non-pharmacological advice for hair loss?
Do not wear a wig, scarf or hat for at least 1 hour after application of minoxidil as this may increase the amount absorbed through the skin causing unwanted effects i.e., mild dermatitis and unwanted hair growth above the eyebrows and on cheeks.
