Q

What is a dislocation

A

A dislocation is where a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position. Often occurs after a hard collision which causes the bone to be displaced.

17
Q

What are the symptoms of a dislocation

A

Deformity and swelling of the joint which is locked out of its position

18
Q

What is a torn cartilage

A

Cartilage is a firm elastic substance which lines adjoining bones. It absorbs the impact on the bones while reducing the friction during sport/activity. Damage to cartilage often occurs due to wear and tear from long term overuse.

19
Q

What is a soft tissue injury

A

Joints are where two poor more bones meet, They are particularly prone to injury because movement past the range of movement meaning it can tear or pull on tendons and ligaments

20
Q

What is a strain

A

A strain is a twist, pull or tear of a muscle or a tendon (while a sprain is an injury to a ligament). Most common strains are in the back or hamstring.

21
Q

What is a sprain

A

A sprain is a damaged ligament. One of he most common sprains in sport is a twisted ankle.

22
Q

What is an abrasion

A

Abrasions or grazes are damages to the skin which are caused by friction of the skin against a rough surface.

23
Q

How can PAR-Q’s prevent Injuries

A

They prevent injuries by stopping them before it happens, the PAR-Q is taken before the physical activity meaning if any red lights come up on the PAR-Q you are able to talk to a doctor and get some suggestions and recommendations.

24
Q

How does protective equipment help prevent injury?

A

Protective equipment protects vulnerable parts of the body that could be injured if a nasty collision happens. This drastically reduces the chances of injury.

25
Q

Why is it important to check the equipment and facilities to prevent injury

A

Organisers, officials and participants need to check for safety before an activity or competition. Organisers should check that the facilities are safe and secure and that the equipment is in good condition.

26
Q

How does complying with the rules and competition help to prevent injury

A

Rules help to ensure safety. If a rule is broken, participants are punished. Offences can include professional fouls and over aggression which could threaten a players career.
