Saggital Plane
The plane that divides the body from top to bottom resulting in a left side and a right side - the range of movement is flexion and extension. Sporting examples : Front Somersault.
Frontal Plane
This divides the body from top to bottom vertically but front and back sections - this planes range of movements is abduction and adduction. Sporting examples : Cartwheels.
Transverse Plane
Divides the body across the middle (horizontally), giving a top section (known as ‘superior’) and bottom section (known as ‘inferior’). Sporting example: Trampoline Twist

Vertically (resulting in a left and right side)

Vertically (resulting in a back and front section)
How is the transverse plane divided
Horizontally (resulting in a top and bottom section)
What is the range of movement for the saggital plane
Flexion and extension
What is the range of movement on the frontal plane
Adductions and abductions
What are the range of movements in the transverse plane
Rotation
What are the characterisitic of movement for a somersualt
You move foward with your left and right side moing together in the same direction - in the sagittal plane. Your body bends on a line that runs horizontally from side to side - around your frontal axis
What are the characterisitics of movement for cartwheels
You move sideways, from right to left or left to right - in the frontal plane. Your body rotates around a line that runs from the front to the back of your body - around your saggital axis
What are the characteristics of movement in twist jumps
The key movement is not up or down, or from side to side, but around one spot - in the traverse plane. They twist around an invisible line that runs from head to toe around the vertical axis.
What are the characteristics of this type of movement
You move sideways, from right to left or left to right - in the frontal plane
Your body rotates around the line that runs from the front to the back of your body - around your sagittal axis
