Methods of Training
Continous Fartlek Circuit Interval Plyometrics Weight
Continous Training
Steady intensity training and doesnt involve any rests. Good for Cardiovascular Fitness
Fartlek
Translated to ‘speed play’. Includes periods of work followed by periods of rest ir light work.
Circuit
Involves a number of exercises arranged so as to avoid exercising the same muscle groups over and over again
Interval
To have high intensity, high quality workouts always done at a fast pace then followed by a minutes rest
Plyometrics
Plyometrics are exercise in ehich you exert maximum force in short intervals of time
Weight
Weight training uses progressive resistance either in the form of actual weight lifted or in terms od the number of times the weight is lifted

State an advantage of Continuous training
Any from:
- Improves Cardiovascular fitness
- Inexpensive
- Can be done in a variety of places
- can be done alone or in a group
State a disadvantage of continuous training
Any from:
- Does not improve anaerobic fitness
- Some people find it boring
State an advantage of Fartlek training
- Can be done in a variety of terrains
- can include hill work, uphill and downhill
- can include rest periods
- can include reps e.g. up the same hill several times
State a disadvantage of Fartlek Training
- There may not be suitable terrain nearby
- difficult for the coach to monitor unless he runs with the athlete
State an advantage of Circuit Training
- Can Combine many Components of Fitness
- a good source of all round fitness
- can include both aerobic and anaerobic exercises
State a disadvantage of circuit training
- the circuit needs to be set up and well planned out
- it is important to work hard on each circuit but people often pace themselves
State an advantage of Interval Training
- Includes repeated sprints, which is anaerobic
- includes a rest period
- includes repetitions of high quality work that can get the heart rate nearly up to max
