Open skill
The situation is always changing e.g. football where yu could be tackled at any time
Closed skill
What is taking place is a stable and predictable environment e.g. when taking a throw in, you are in control
Basic skil
One that a player finds easy and needs little concentration e.g. playing a pass in football
Complex skill
One that the player needs his full concentration and is techniqualy difficult e.g. taking a penalty in football
Low orginisation skill
Has clear simple steps e.g. a shot in basketball can be broken down into step 1 step 2 step 3 step 4
High orginisation skill
Has lots of complicated phases or parts e.g. a somersault in trampolining
Massed Practise
Where the skill is practised until learned without taking breaks. Usually for athletes who are fit and experienced
Distributed practise
Where the skill is practised over several sessions, with rests and breaks. Usually for players of lower ability
Fixed practise
Where the skill is practised over and over again until it is perfected e.g. practising free shots in basketball
Variable practise
Involves practising a skill in a variety of different situations e.g. taking free kicks from different positions
Visual guidance
A coach demonstrating how to do a lay up shot so thag the students can visually watch him do it
Verbal guidance
The coach would verablly explain how to do a skill, such as the coach tells u how to defend in football
Manual guidance
Manual is when the coach is helping you learn the skill e.g. the coach moving a defenders body into position to help them jockey
Mechanical guidance
Where the coach uses equipment e.g. the coach using the trampolining ropes to help you learn to do a somersault
Intrinsic feedback
Comes from the performer themselves on how they thought they performed in the game
