Principles Of Training Flashcards
What does Principles of training (SPIF) stand for ?
Specificity
Progressive overload
Individual needs
FITT (frequency, intensity, time and type)
What is specificity ?
Matching training to the requirements of an activity.
What is progressive overload ?
Working at a higher range of intensity than the minimum threshold of training, but staying below the maximum threshold of training.
What is individual needs ?
Designing a training plan based on the athletes individual needs e.g. if a man is obese he can’t run a marathon
What is FITT
Allows you to plan an exercise plan as safely as possible F = frequency (how often) I = intensity (how hard) T = time (how long) T = type (method)
Starts slowely and gradually increases the amount of exercise
Progressive overload
Used to increase the amount of work the body does to achieve overload
Fitt
The time required to repair the body after a match or a competition
Recovery
Training that matches the position or competition the athlete is playing in
Specificity
Losing fitness level when you stop exercising
Reversibility
Occurs when the body trains beyond the bodys ability to recover
Overtraining
Personal fittnes needs based on their age, gender fitness levels and what sport they play
Individual needs
