Soc 21: Planes And Axis Of Movement Flashcards
The sagittal plane
Runs vertucally from fromt to back and divides body in left and right parts
Allows flexion and extension, eg: bicep curl, running, kicking a ball
Takes olace in a frontal axis
The frontal plane
Divides the body from front and back, resulting in a front side and a back side- adduction and abduction takes place at a sagittal axis
Transverse plane
divides the body across the middle (horizontally),
giving a top section (also known as ‘superior’) and a bottom section (‘inferior) - rotation
Frontal axis
runs from side to side - this allows flexion and extension)
Eg somersualt
Sagittal axis
runs from front to back - allows abduction and adduction)
Eg a catrwheel
Vertical axis
runs from top to bottom, - allows rotation of the body in an upright position)
Eg a pirouette
Wich axis the sagittal plane (flex and ext) work with?
Frontal axis (flex and ext
Soorting example - front somersault
Which axis dpes the frontal plane work with (abd and add)
Sagittal axis (add and abb)
Sporting example - cartwheel
What axis does the transverse plane (rotation) work with
Vertical axis (rotation)
Sporting example - trampoline twist
Front somersualt, sagittal plane + frontal axis
-moves forward left and right side moving together in same position - sagittal plane
Body bends on line that runs horizontally from side to side - frontal axis
Cartwheeel, frontal plane + sagittal axis
Moves sideways left to right - frontal plane
Body rotates around line from front to back - sagittal axis
Trampoline twist, transverse plane + vertical axis
Key movement isn’t up or down or side to side but around one spot - transverse plane
Twist around in invisible line running from head to toe - vertical axis
