Soc 19: The Short-term Effects Of Excercise Flashcards
Stroke volume
is the amount of blood pumped by the heart during each beat.
Cardiac output
is the amount of blood pumped by the heart in one min
= stroke volume x heart rate
Heart rate
The number of times your heart beats per minute
Short term effects on the muscle
-Muscle fatigue- muscles feel weak, painful and tired
-Cramps- severe sort of muscle fatigue causes muscle to involuntarily contract painfully
-Lactate accumulation as a result of no oxygen available for respiration
All as a result of anaerobic excercise
-Muscle tempersture increases
Effects on respiratory system
Respiratory rate, number of breaths per minute increases
Tidal voume the number of air inhaled and exhaled in one breath increases
The rate of gaseous exchange increases
Effects on cardiovascular system
-heart rate, the number lf beats per minute increases
-stroke volume, amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle in one contraction increases
-cardiac output, volume of blood pumped by the heart per minute increases
-vasodilation, blood vessels leasing to woeking kuscles may open to increase blood flow
-vasoconstriction, blood vessles leading to digestive system close to reduce blood flow
-blood vessels near the skin open to allow heat to escape
