Soc 21 - Planes And Axes Of Movement Flashcards
What are the three different panes in the body?
- The sagittal plane
- The frontal plane
- The transverse plane
What is a plane?
A plane is an imaginary surface that divides the body into sections
What is the sagittal plane?
An imaginary line dividing the body vertically into left and right sides
What is the frontal plane?
An imaginary line, dividing the body vertically from front to back
What is the transverse plane?
An imaginary line dividing the body from top to bottom horizontally
What is an axis?
This an imaginary line through the body which allows joints to move
What are the three axes?
- Sagittal axis
- Frontal axis
- Vertical axis
What is the frontal axis?
An imaginary line passing through the body from left to right.
What is the vertical axis?
An imaginary line passing vertically through the body.
What is the sagittal axis?
An imaginary line passing horizontally through the body from front to back
What movements does the frontal axis allow?
Allows flexion and extension
What movements does the vertical axis allow?
Allows rotation of the body in an upright posistion
What movements does the sagittal axis allow?
Allows abduction and adduction
Which plane works with the sagittal axis?
The frontal plane
Which plane works with the vertical axis?
The transverse plane
